The Amazon Fire tablets limit you to the Amazon App Store, but run on FireOS, a custom version of Android. That means, you can install the Play Store and access millions of Android apps and games, including Google Apps like Gmail, Chrome, Google Maps and more.

The best part about installing the Play Store on your Fire Tablet is that it doesn’t require in-depth “hacking” such as rooting or running scripts from a PC. It’s just a matter of downloading and installing some APK files from the tablet, and you’ll be ready to run with the Play Store! Let’s begin.

Download Play Store files

Before we begin, make sure your Fire tablet is 2014 or later. This process may not work with older Kindle tablets because you need to enable “apps from unknown sources”.

First, open the “Settings” app from the “Home” tab on the home screen.

Now go to “Security and Privacy”.

Select “Apps from unknown sources”.

Search “Silk Browser” and then toggle on “Allow from this source”. This will allow us to install an app from outside the Amazon App Store.

That way, we can start downloading Play Store files. There are four APK files that we will need to run and run the Play Store, and they are specific to your Fire Tablet.

To find out which Amazon Fire Tablet model you have, go to Settings> Device Options> About Fire Tablet. You will see the name of your “device model” here. To view your FireOS version, go to Settings> Device Options> System Updates.

With the device model in mind, we can download the appropriate files below. Just copy and paste the links in the table below into your Silver Browser on your Amazon Fire Tablet. We are currently downloading files, do not open them now.

With the APK files downloaded to your Amazon Fire Tablet, we can begin installing them one by one. Open the “Files” app from the home screen.

These APKs must be installed in a specific order. For each APK, follow this process: Tap the file> select “Continue”> tap the “Install” button. Once installed, tap “Done”.

Don’t open Play Store yet.

Install files in this order (file names will be longer on your device):

After all the APKs are installed, it’s time to run the tablet again. Press the power button and select “Restart”.

After the tablet restarts, you’ll see the Play Store on the home screen. Open it and sign in with your Google Account.

Once you’re signed in, you’ll have a functional Google Play Store like any other Android device. Go ahead and download YouTube, Gmail, and any other app you can’t find in the Amazon App Store.

You may encounter some issues when you are trying to use the Play Store right now. The Play Store and Google Play services will automatically update themselves in the background, so take a moment. This can take up to ten minutes at most.
